For the person who has not been in the external job market for some time, knowing what agenda items may be covered in an interview can be useful preparation. The following basic points should generally be covered:
- Introduce yourself and your background
- State your reason for applying for the job
- Inquire about the job description and requirements
- Answer the questions positively
- State what you can do for the firm
- Affirm why you should be hired
In any interview the one who sets the agenda by asking the questions manages the content. It is important, therefore, that you ask questions as early in the interview as possible. You can do this by attaching a question to the end of an answer.
The Close
You have answered all of the tough questions and the interview is coming to an end, now you need to ask for the job by asking:
Where do we go from here?
What time frame are you working to?
When will you be making a decision?
How and When will you notify me?
